Welcome!

Oh, I'm so going to have to change that...

Continue for the scribblings of a slightly (many will beg to differ) mad Englishman with an overactive imagination and nothing to lose (well, not much).

If you get stuck in the quicksand that is the insides of my head, good! Stay there and bask in the euphoria of my insanity.

(Yeesh, sorry, that sounds a bit flat, doesn't it?) Anyway, I hope some of you will be able to immerse yourself in the rubbish that I post.

Bye for now,

Overboard

Sort of went over the top with this one, in a way. Was thinking just about a conversation between Laelius and Allucius' fiancee just for him to establish who she was... now... I bloody well turned it into a romantic sidestory. Well, it'll turn into one, anyway... still, let's see where that ends up... *sigh* Despite all that, it was interesting enough to continue writing... even if I went back to the siege of the city (did a pre-siege naval skirmish beforehand, was kind of fun, got a problem with the port/starboard equivalents though, method I'm using now is quite confusing).

Touka Gettan... weird... reverse chronological is annoying me, especially since I'm not even watching it properly. Gotta love Shinsen and their sub of Ergo Proxy... licence that you corporate bastards! (I never said that...)

*shrug*

The Continence of Scipio

Part One, which I've effectively written more as 'the Continence of Laelius' than anything else. Rushed the end... well, it hasn't ended yet, of course, so *shrug*

The Continence of Scipio - Part 1

Sunday, 16 May 2010

Hiatus...

Yes, consisting of one week... shite week at work, couldn't write... *dammit*

Wrote a page which was the end of the Siege of Carthago Nova and the start of the Continence... man that was annoying...

Monday, 10 May 2010

More... and more...

So... I wrote this conversation almost purely for shits and giggles to satiate my imagination and perverse desire to depict all enemies and being stupendously civilised when confronted with each other... it's a literary fault of mine, but screw you if you're about to mock me (!) Well, originally, I was going to go for that 1) Alexander, 2) Pyrrhus and 3) me and 1) me if you didn't beat me conversation, but that was a bit cliched. *shrug*

Anyway, it was fun to write that. Though transcription was disrupted by watching Idiots, Tests and Summoned Beings in its entirety (new-found respect for Emiri Katou *meh*) and the rest of Black Butler (a bit anti-climactic if you ask me, and I'll never get over Maaya Sakamoto voicing a pre-pubescent 'English' noble). *sigh*

Oh well, what's for next time... how about 'the Continence of Scipio' (never understood why it had to be 'Continence'!!)?

Peace... or something like that

Well, it's Monday already but I'm going to whine like it's Sunday anyway.

What a rubbish end to the season! Chelsea have the title, we got hammered at the Emirates, and Tottenham weren't in any position to enjoy any favour we might (though probably wouldn't have) given them, 'cos they lost at bloody Burnley!!

Anyway, here's a piece that takes dramatic licence to new lows.

Enjoy,

Bubi

Black Butler

So... 12 episodes of Kuroshitsuji down, another 12 to go. Mixed thoughts really (once again, this interrupted my attempts at transcription *sigh*)... it's set in 1880/90's London and the errors come so thick and fast, I'm just taking it all at face value and laughing. It's not bad, though its macabre tone and comic relief flit back and forth a bit dizzily, as though the writers had a collective inner-ear infection throughout all of production. Oh well, passable fare... oh crap, this wasn't supposed to be a review.

No matter... Drusus was originally called Brutus, but I forgot the latter's name, and 'Drusus' just sounds better for a spy... sort of... *shrug*

Siege of Carthago Nova - prelude

Yah, a short one this time (I'm feeling lazy... go away).

So, I'm introducing another character which I'll expand on with other sketches, though his actual role will be quite schizophrenic... torturer, interrogator and spy. Meh, Romans could multitask, so why not. Anyway... hello, quaestionarius! *sigh*

PS Guess what game I've been playing eight hours a day for the last week! *pfa*

So here is the first bit of the prelude to the Siege of Carthago Nova

Bank Holiday...

How ironic...

Been playing R:TR - Greeks on hard difficulty. Only 268BC and I have myself wars against all my neighbours. Ah well... only a game. On that note, as with all occasions when I have Monday off... big-spiel coming tomorrow, probably Trebbia part 2, or Tarraco, expanding on fictional character time. *grumble* Haven't been writing much at work past couple weeks... why? I actually have work to do! Shock horror, those people who pay my salary giving me work to do... damn them! *heh*

Byousoku 5 CM... seems very melancholy, rather repressing all in all. Very good backgrounds though, and anime characters with more than two facial expressions! Never thought I'd see the day... *sigh*

Politics

Ah yes, at last we arrive at... the gooey and laugh at Gordon Brown for his glorious mike gaff! Ah, British politicians... *sigh* I have a feeling that Clegg is as Tory as Brown (who is probably even more Tory than the Tories... o_0') Note: 'expenses' is the NHS euphemism for sperm... MP's claim a lot of expenses ergo MP = tosser! (thanks Jeremy!) PS don't look too much into that, I didn't...

And quote:

Pompeius Magnus: Cease quoting the law! We carry weapons!

Kurozuka

That's what I was watching this time (while transcribing... still took an absolute age). *sigh*

A screaming (or at least attempting to scream) Miyano Mamoru... nah, doesn't seem right. And that's Romi Paku? (she's half-Korean, don't know how to write her name... *shrug*)

Meh... part two... coming soon... (ha! coming soon he says...) Still, quite proud of how it came out. Edited it slightly while transcribing, but everything fits... sort of.

Wah! No more Pandoro!!

Trebbia - the first bit

When I started to write this bit, I didn't realise how long it would be... then I collected everything together and then I didn't realise how short it was. *sigh* So, here's the first three thousand... Day 1/2.

I probably overdid the whole Scipio/Longus argument (there's another one at the end of Day 2). *shrug* I'm no historian, so sue me...

Enjoy (a tad to technical to, though, I think)

Sand & Boxes

Hmmm... *checks pockets*... *sigh* empty... and here, I wanted to get JustCause2. Well, I've got enough stuff to keep my ever shrinking brain occupied... finishing Prototype for one thing (well, finishing it *again*... fantastic game for just arsing about... watch how high the cars rise when you elbow drop off the Empire State Building... that'll never get old).

Anyway, enough of that... more 'Imperator' stuff: our boy Gaius was involved a fair few fights (Ilipa notwithstanding). Nine if I did my research... (uh, it was supposed to be fictional wasn't it... what's with the effort? *he asks... uh-doi!*) Was thinking of two parts... now three. Meh, really should settle on one project one of these days. Falmouth... ought to be nice: 12 months of quiet South Downs chilling. Aaahh!

Lego orchestra

After watching Nodame Cantabile (both versions) all I could think about was one of the extras on the Clone Wars vol. 1: a lego Darth Vader conducting a likewise lego orchestra... stroke of genius. And painting marines hardly made it better... *yeesh*

Need to think of something to do... (yes, several things come to mind... but can't be bothered...) *shrug*

A thought occurs to me: do I exploit dramatic license for Ilipa? Answer: well, duh! I've already said something to the effect that I make absolutely no effort to be true to history... well, that's if I ever publish, but never mind. *sigh* Will shake me head and cringe...

A Bit of Everything

Meh, so I recycled some old crap... big deal. But still... *sigh*, I'm writing so much crap at work and none at home, rather a shame, I suppose (technically, I should be ashamed for doing that, but I'm not, so hey, someone sack me!). Anyway: Kimi ni Todoke (finished), Sora no Woto (finished), Omamori Himari (yeesh FS-ville), and selected music clips from Nodame (again, because it's cool...) (but for some reason, Takako Honda's voice is starting to bug me... not so for Sanae Kobayashi, though, oddly enough *shrug*, and no disrespect intended, Aya Hirano is not as she's cracked up to be, I don't think - he says inviting disagreement). I'd rehash a quote from it, but I'm pretty sure I'd get all the romanization wrong, so I won't *blech*.

And now for randomness:

(about Rosalind Franklyn) James Watson: She's not my type.
Maurice Wilkins: Oh? What is your type, then?
James Watson: Large breasts!

And ultimately, let's not forget that James Watson, while undoubtedly clever, was a total arse! Worse than Edward Teller? You tell me...

Flight of the Hundred

This is something that hearkens to good old Greek literature (no prizes for what it's based on). Yet another project I started ages ago but haven't gotten around to developing it properly. There's an even more obvious one somewhere at the back of my mind, but I don't think I'll ever commit it to paper since it's a bit on the ridiculous side (ha! 'ridiculous' he says!) *sigh*

Anyway... the first chapter (which I edited, though evidently, not enough)

Zoo

Today, I believe I saw, for the first time, the toddler version of a carjacking... at lunch, BigSis2's friend from work had a very energetic one year old son who couldn't stop nicking other kids' prams and charging around with them. One wonders... we hope this is just a phase!

Anyway... crap, the paint's dried... well, here we go again (Liche Purple). *shrug*

Trebbia

Once again: one 'b' or 2? *shrug* Anyway, been writing this one sketch for days, got about 7000 words in, and I only just started the actual battle today... and since its Laelius narrating, you don't see it. Still, dramatic stuff, just need to re-read to see how odd it sounds. Have to edit the whole topography in the first part.

So, what's he going to do for seven years? (apart from see his good mate get elected as curule aedile??)

*sigh*

Indolence...

*grin*

For two days I've effectively done absolutely nothing at work... managed to get away with spreading an hour's worth of work into eight... spent the rest of the time scribbling Trebbia (one 'b' or two??) or reading about it on the net. Oh, glee, got about five thousand words done. It's great sitting facing the entire office. However, might have made Sempronius look too much of a tosser. Never mind, wait for Sunday. *shrug*

St Christopher's is a nice place, it's got seats (!) and no need to shout all the time... ought to get a game or two in a couple months. (Reminds me... order Death Company.) Closer than B&C. Ah well, how to customize Dante...

Noda Noda

Okaaaaaaaaaaay, finished watching Nodame Cantabile (what episodes I had of it)... and what happens? I don't have the bloody season finale. Mukya! Still, got me listening to Chopin and Elgar again. Actually, anime season 3 got me listening to Bach some more. Ended up youtubing Elgar's Violin Sonata in E-minor 1st Movement and replaying it at least half a dozen times.

Should I take up the violin again? BigSis x 2 will definitely say yes... but I do a few too many things at the moment. Come to think about it, I never referred to myself as the Concert Master while at school. Still, not that it made a difference. I was the best violinist at the end (for two years once David Allan left), even if I didn't practise (which I didn't *heh*). Never managed to get in a performance of Bach's Violin Concerto in A-minor 1041. That third movement was murder (I don't give a crap what anyone says, I know I sucked!). Pulled off a hacked performance of Partita 2 though, yeesh that was shameful, heart just wasn't in it. *siiiiiiiiiiiigh*

Ticinus

Wrote this ages ago, but first reading, didn't make much sense, so edited it. I might actually do Trebbia now... only just realised it... Scipio Sr is cleverer than people realise... *shrug*

Nodame

Cantabile... the live action series... I must be out of my mind to watch it... hilarious as hell, mind you, but still, must be out of my mind. *shrug*

And lame... working tomorrow, and probably spend half the time thinking of ways to kill my soup, but hey...

And so, Sunday (slowly) looms, and I'm wondering about Utica and Bagrades... go figure.

Sorry!

1500 pt suckiness

So, had my first shoot up in about 10 months... got kicked... absolutely kicked from one end of the table to the other over five turns... still drew though!! Granted, both JL & I were fighting over... our mobile phones... *yeesh* and him with a tournie army. Still... killed 2 Termies (including a TH/SS) in CC and a Land Raider with a single shot! Down... bitch!

And a big WTF to the madman who wrote the new Blood Angels codex... most codices need to be broken in a bit... this one came already broken (PS not a complaint... yet).

Anyway, probably won't get another one in for a bit... want to finish new Marine list first... joy...

WH40K

So, what was it this time?

Well, yet more BS*f*G (Season 3, and man Jamie Bamber looks strange with the added weight) (note to self: why do I like gauntness in both sexes?!) (second note to self: not gaunt enough! lol *sigh*) (third note to self: still like Grace Park!!). And... TH/SS termies are absolutely awesome so I'm painting crap again. First Rhino's almost done. And it's all purple!! Who knows, maybe I'm a closet Slaaneshi! *ha*

Anyway, just re-read that chapter. I wrote several versions of a specific sketch where human reporters visit the state institute... all utter BS, so I'm wondering how in hell I'm going to get a plot out of this... *shrug* All I had was the concept and off it went... *sigh* Oh well... probably won't pursue it much since there isn't actually anything I can do with it, apart from chronicle our girl's rise through the ranks. Actually, I seem to remember it was more about our dear friend the descendant. *whack*

Cheh...

State Institute (I didn't name the chapter... so sue me)

Rrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, I dredged up something I wrote ages ago, and I rather liked the look of it, but it's quite difficult to rationalise. Still, should be interesting (I say that a lot don't I? *sigh*)

Anyway, here goes for nothing.

BSG

So what was it this time?

Battlestar *frakking(!)* Galactica. Oh sure, old as hell, but still good entertainment, even if I want to pummel Gaius' face into a wall. Man, I get through a lot of TV shows... next week, I can guarantee will be Tru Calling, and why? I bought the full series this week and can't watch it yet, since I'm... well BSGing it... (PS I like Grace Park!!)

Anyway, I wanted to include Publius Major's spew about running for consul, but thought better of it, probably seemed a bit meaningless to, and ending it with the words 'death of the Republic' looked interesting. I've done Baecula, just wondering how to do reaction to Upper Baetis...

Prologue to War

Something different, today... say hi to Polybius...

As opposed to some people with weird names (sic).

Again, rushed ending... actually, not so much this time, I'd finished this one ages ago (Tuesday or something). Spent all week doing sketches for Ilipa, read up on my history, found I got it completely wrong. Oh well... Anyway, tell a lie, I said Ticinus, but this is the bit before that, a whole load of apocrphal stuff, but hey... *sigh* Forgive my use of generational markers in Latin

So that's how...

OK, check this out... (bear in mind this picture is about five years old)

OK, may as well put this up, for what it's worth... though I didn't do the grafiti work, which was a pity. Anyway, been a while since I donned the 'Reaper Coat' (haven't been to a lab in ages, and scared shitless someone'll pour potassium manganate on it just to piss me off). Still, big up the Urbanist!! Seb, I swear I'll come see you some time.

Now, when the hell am I going to get my other coat down... lost my old one on the District line *grrr*

Hmmm, glad I got a haircut... (!)

Ilipa

I've decided the end of the 'Scipio chronicles' (part 1... at least *shrug*) will be at Ilipa... awesome battle (no disrespect intended but... SCREW YOU HANNIBAL!!) *uh-grin?* hnnnh...

Anyway, what the hell did Laelius do after the war? All I know is that he became the plebeian praetor, and lost the consulship to his mate's brother... would welcome some education in this matter...

(or not, it's just 'historic fiction' - he tries to say with massive speech marks)

Alan Coren

Loved this from News Quiz (something along the lines of):

Alan Coren: Oh, I thought it'd be about my marriage with Sandi Toksvig... an idea not easily describable.
Sandi Toksvig: Alan, I've told you already, it'll be like every other marriage: we're not going to have sex, and we'll just sit in bed having burgers... it'll be marvellous!
AC: We've already done that!
ST: Oh yes, we have, haven't we? *laughs* You know I'd forgotten, that's very bad. But it was magic, you know.
AC: You never forget your first burger!

Scipio

This is so happening... managed to finish off a full sketch centred around Ticinus at work today (a bit slow, had almost sod all to do... *ahem*). Anyway, probably need to redo the 'civic crown' bit, but seems quite good, I think. Add a few bits of dialogue to the actual battle scene and it'll be ready to go, methinks.

And already I'm thinking about Upper Baetis... *pfa* *grumble*

Sunday, 21 March 2010

Joss...

Right... rushed ending, once again... why? I was watching something I should have watched absolutely ages ago: Dollhouse. Watched the first four episodes on the trot while doing the last six hundred words or so (first time watching so easily distracted). This is going to sound lame, since everyone (including me) knew it already, but Dollhouse is awe-hawe-some!! Joss Whedon has made another cracker of a show, though admittedly Angel was not that great and Buffy kind of petered out towards the end (sorry, personal opinion, I know a lot of people, Big Sis One and Two included, who love it), but Firefly's cancellation was pure sacrilege!! (No disrespect intended, but Serenity, mind-blowingly brilliant though it was especially the battle scene, did not make up for it.) Anyway, I've really got to stop doing this.

Note to self... start writing on Wednesdays (though by all means, I will continue to write sketches at work... ah, *clears throat*... *twice*). I'll probably do a first chapter on Scipio next week...

Ticinus... not sure how to do it without making him seem like a complete twat(!) And when did he go bald? Every bust I've seen he's shiny! *sigh*

Second Punic War

Grrr...

I suddenly want to write a series of books about P. Cornelius Scipio as recounted by Gaius Laelius to Polybius. There isn't any popular literature out there about any of them... I think. *shrug* (please... enlighten me! (Publius not withstanding, please!) But fiction?!?! Piss off!!) How about L. Cornelius Scipio...?!

Having a bit of trouble wondering where to set the interview... I don't know but Tarentum just came to mind without much reason hhhhhhhhhh-whatsoever, even though I know that they met in Rome (of course they did... yeesh). Well, that'll do for tomorrow's scribbles... *fnarr* *fnarr* (haven't done that in a while! Ha!)

And back to work...

So ends my long weekend (which was obviously not long enough... five days, for crying out loud, though to be fair, I spent a lot of it either asleep or drunk, so no wonder... ha, nearly missed my flight on Saturday because my watched stopped while scything up US Marines - Prototype, very silly game... don't really get how the 'Events' are relevant to the story, but never mind, most of my gaming experience is XP grinding so I'm one to talk *shrug*).

And so, finished Commander this morning... while watching yet more CSI (about forty seconds of music in the season 6 finale... weird but interesting... ended up watching it about half a dozen times... meh). Again, I crushed the ending and now it makes no sense at all... was originally intending to do a character breakdown but got stuck once Renee left (French pronunciation please)... *sigh* So, better than last weeks by quite a bit, but as I warned you... I can't write short stories for shit. *grumble* Practise, then, I suppose...

Commander

Ah well, a day late but never mind... *sigh*

Got home yesterday and crashed (boarded the plane drunk... heh)

Rather contentious material this time, considering, and probably a few things which make absolutely no sense whatsoever given the lack of context. Sorry, on all counts... but remember children, it's just a story, one that I'll edit half to death at some point since I have constant continuity issues... *prays* (BTW that implies I despise retconning, which I put down to writer's stupidity, but I don't hold it against anyone since most things that require retconning are franchises... yeesh, oh X-Men how your timelines have suffered! Ha!)

Snore...!

Just been reading Lucky Star... very amusing stuff, but all else suffers... However, started playing Prototype properly (faffed about on the XBox a bit earlier, now I'm just faffing about on the PC version - skinflint - 'lots of tall buildings you can hurl yourself off for giggles'... how true). Can't seem to get the Glide going more than twice at a jump, but I think that would make just a leeeetle broken if you could.

And quote: 'These guys came here for a fight and a hockey game broke out'.

Sorry, just off the plane and I just wanna go to sleep, but the view's great... (freezing my butt off, but hey, about to go to an engagement party, so never mind...). And here, the Old Man wanted me to check out Uppsala... (apparently they have a very good chemical radiology department at the University). Personally, wanted to go to Lund to see the cathedral, but hey, I've got less than a day here so *shrug*.

Might be a bit late with the naval shenanigans tomorrow, thankfully, Monday can just sleep in. (Probably won't, because I'll be shooting something or other... *sigh* this is why I end up sleeping at work... Ha!)

So: Renee Exelmann anyone?!?! *sigh* sorry...

How about Villenbrock then?!?! *sigh* meh...

Scribbles

Started writing at work again... been a crappy week... *ahem*

Privateer Fleet... suddenly realised it seemed rather implausible... crew-wise that is, considering they're all... well, very old. Ah well, go immortality... or whatever.

*sigh*

Monday, 8 March 2010

So... what?

*sigh*

Fight scene? An encyclopedia entry of some sort? (I actually like doing those... even though I edit them every ten seconds...) Incorporating the aliens is going to be tricky... why? I haven't actually written that much on them... which is a pity because they could actually have an interesting back story. All I've got so far is 'massive space opera with masses of violence' which pretty much sums it up. Mechanical design for the spaceships was fun, though, if a bit unoriginal.

Oh, and *waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh*, the string's busted on my Vortec, cables are fine, but I need to find someone with a bow clamp so I can disassemble it. Though, serves me right for abusing it for about six years. *grumble*

Sunday, 7 March 2010

Next week...

I really ought to stop writing on Sunday evenings when I'm about to post while watching crap. This time it was a combination of Tegami Bachi and Hakshaku to Yousei. One, I'm an idiot for trying to concentrate on a foreign language, subtitles and my random writing all at the same time, and two, I'm a soppy git for watching those series. *yeesh*

And then, I really ought to think about what I do. That's one thing, I can write a lot, but I never plan it... just get a concept in my head and then tap-tap-tap. Probably why I write endless sketches: no form, no context. A pity, really... *shake* *shake*

Now, let's see... I was thinking about Andrea's last day alive, largely because I've had it in my head (but not paper) for a while now, but once again... taken out of context it'd just be confusing. Plus, a bit too close to Magnum Opus for comfort (hm, excuse me). Oh, what the hell... I'll mull over a few bits and decide on Tuesday, heck, I don't actually do anything until Thursday anyway... (had aliens in my head just then... I'll let you know)

Sharp Shots

Ooooh, I'm so going to regret this...

I couldn't even re-read this. Even to me, it's just words. Though, to be fair, despite the fact that it has absolutely no context whatsoever, it could have worked. However, I must admit, wrote it so very ponderously (even though it's the shortest piece on here yet *sigh*). It was supposed to be just an exercise in description, but it kind of failed... *sigh*

Oh well, see what you think.

Grumble

Still having trouble... bit too technical at the moment. Any compound archers out there?!?! Nah, thought not. Hell, I haven't done it for a while now, either, but I still know most of the lingo which is a bit irritating. Rather have forgotten it to give me an excuse to start again. *sigh*

No matter, just fiction after all, but I still think it'll go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over some people's heads.

On a different note: WHERE THE HELL DID I SEE THE NAME JEAN LE ROND D'ALEMBERT?!?! (apart from Wikipedia!) Thanks to that, I'll have to call one of Derrida's siblings Daremberg!! Rubbish! *growl*

Anyway, still trying to remember all the of the technical terms for the parts of a recurved compound bow... like my Hoyt Vortec (antique that it is... ooo, still shiny! Ha! Broke most of the arrows Tim gave me...). Ah, sniper rifle parts... now that'll be a departure from convention... *thinking* (or at least tries to).

Shots

Right, got it, but it might be boring as hell, since it's going to be pure prose: archer vs sniper. *shrug* nnn?

Yeah, sounded a bit weird when I thought about it as well. Still, something without any dialogue whatsoever will be a change from the usual stuff I write. Oh, and I'll introduce some bits of tech: ProjEve! *yay* (he says in a ZP sarcastic way)

Got to stop shooting people apart in VATS... too amusing... damn you Bethesda (again). *sigh*

CS-bloody-I

Rushed the ending again... why? Was watching bloody CSI, and purely because I couldn't remember Summer Glau ever being in it. Yes, how petty. *sigh* Ended up watching three other episodes... Kate Mara was in it as well?! *shrug*

Forgot how much I enjoyed it, to be fair. Can't write crime thriller at all, but hey.

So, didja guess what the Enclave is?!?! Was worried I made it a bit too obvious at times.

For next week... actually, the first thing that popped into my head was Warhammer 40K rip off, but I'll think of something else.

Satisfaction

Finished all of thirty seconds ago on my other computer (sorry, old habits die hard, only really write at two computers, one of which doesn't have Internet access, yes, clever aren't I?!).

Slightly rushed ending again, but still, should prove to be interesting.

Enjoy,

Saturday's fixtures

Ah, I feel for Dan Parks... even if he is more Aussie than Scot. MOTM twice and lost both matches.

On a brighter note: f*** you Chelsea!! Go Tevez! So going to watch MOTD tonight (don't normally unless Fulham wins - not often enough, but this time I'll make an exception) if only to see Blue misery. Ha!

(Sorry, all you Chelsea fans, but as a Cottager, just have to!) Oh, the glee!

Drought

After doing nothing last night owing to poker and inebriation, I wonder if I can finish up this week's one. Easy answer: yes, hard answer: yes but it'll be as hurried as last weeks. No matter, I'll probably turn it into yet another novella at some point, change it in six months time and/or weave it into the Draco Experiment storyline. And if you don't get it now, (once you've read it on Sunday that is) you're a freakin' idiot.

Now for next week: Fingersmith, because it's been on my mind for a while now...

Heavy lifting (sic)

Another office move today... that's about a dozen times I've moved desk at work in about four years. No-one seems to know about VGAs on dual monitor configs. Yeesh! And it had to be done during *my* lunch hour. Well, the Soup's computer is going to stay right where it is: in pieces on the desk next to me.

Ah well, I'll watch Prototype vs inFamous again, that'll let me forget today's crap. *grumble*

Poker

Hmmm, haven't played poker (of any form) in quite a while. Nevermind, should be interesting tomorrow, not a bad pot either. Hopefully my mental arithmetic will be decent enough.

Here goes for a microwave (!)

Primus

It's rather difficult writing about his relationships in human terms... are they brother and sister? Yes and no. Well, same parents? Very difficult to say... *shrug* (just don't want to give out too many spoilers).

Oh yeah, here's a vague one: his wife/partner/whatever is called Kristeva, which is strange 1) because I know little about her beyond being a Bulgarian-French philosopher/critic and 2) the fictional Kristeva above is not human, and probably a casual chemist (haven't decided), but definitely not beyond her fair share of sophistry. And then there's Philidor... though I can't quite imagine him playing the oboe! The chess players are the Lucius and Publius, though! Ha!

Sorry, couldn't get enough of that, still...

Quote of the Day

More just for my amusement than anything else:

Bethesda... damn you...

Playing Fallout3... *yet* again, already got three other characters on the go.

Every time I see Moriarty, I want to stove in his head with a sledgehammer, the 'Irish' tosser. Still wondering if it's better than Oblivion... need another shotgun...

Pop!

Aliens!! Sorry, *the* aliens... haven't done anything about them in a long time. Oh, the joys in getting caught up in the goings on of mere humans, eh... But, my timelines gone down the sewer... Need to delay everything for about fifty years... ffah! I've probably forgotten all the major storylines concerning the aliens anyway... *shrug* Need to unearth those sketches that I scribbled at work!

Anyway, choices... choices... Primus... or Jonny...? I'll stick with the pure fiction, the 'factual' fiction I write is less believable each time I show it to myself. Besides, it just looks like a wikipedia entry! Meh...

Alexander... why?!

A little lame towards the end, wasn't it? Well, I was watching Alexander at the time while I was finishing it off all of half an hour ago, so forgive me (absolutely rubbish film, whoever heard of Macedonians speaking with Oirish accents?!?! Battle of Gaugamela, only fifteen minutes worth watching, but that's just me). *sigh*

Now, I've got Primus in my head, this ought to be interesting (was *so* about to write 'interblurbing', once you twig what it's about, it is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever come up with). I disown it in advance. Pshaw! (Just don't hold me to that, I really like Philidor!!)

And this time, I'll watch a decent film on a Sunday evening... like Troy! (sic) *sigh*

Running

At last... finished.

First completed short story: Running (for lack of a better title).

Hope you like it. *cringe*

Running... W-I-P

Stuck... again...

Started really well, gone down a bit... pity... *huff* last third to write, wondering how to write in the second fight. Actually, a bit of a numbering issue there *shrug*. The only thing that comes to mind is yet another qualification hopeful, but... it's going to be a bit repetitive. Maybe do like Bill Bailey: crisp sandwich *crunch* *crunch* *crunch* *crunch* *crunch* *yum* *yum* *yum* *yum* *yum*... except... faster, perhaps. Come to think about it, haven't had a crisp sandwich in ages. Junk food at work, need to restock, run out of Pringles. Meh!

Ah hmm, maybe the Princess should step in... give her a fight, that might prove to be interesting... *shrug* *sigh*

Gaming...

Really should try to finish a full game of RTR one of these days. I prefer it over RTW, to be honest, but the skins are rather annoying. Prefer the unit roster, though: Athiniai Hoplitai (glee!).

No peasants!

That reminds me... better go bash some Romans (ha!)

Friday...

Well, Boss wasn't in today... rather quiet without him running around throwing bits of paper at everyone. Would've been quiet anyway, like ZP, felt like smacking my head against my keyboard at times. Managed to make two hours worth of work last five. Oh, the joys of the BS you can find on Wikipedia, one of the few sites not banned at work. Damn you IT dept... Still, Sandi and co kept me thoroughly amused this evening (I wonder who Ava Vidal is...).

I suddenly feel very old, suppose I shouldn't, but hey, the life of a cynic, eh? *sigh* (again)

A little odd...

It's only just dawned on me... my character runs like Henry J Waternoose when he's in scorpion mode... I also don't know how much muscletone to give him. Tolkien elf? Or a lock? (sorry, *rugby fan*) To be honest, a cross between was always in mind.

And, now, for the last god-only-knows-how-long, I've been trying to think of a way of making the principle weapon less of a StarWars rip-off, yes, yes, bring on the boos and hisses. Ah well, over the last fifteen years, the content has 'matured' (sic) but the concept never changed, and I'm not sure whether that's a pity or not. Maybe I'll 'physics' my way out of it... Ha, rather idiotic given what I said yesterday.

Sorry, a rather hollow head today... *sigh*

*scribble* *scribble*

Question...

How should a novelist verbalise a manic laugh?

Ha!... Haha!... Mwahahaha!... (I think I'll stop there)

*shrug*

Quote of the Day

No prizes for guessing where I got this (well, not if you're a fan of a particular, and I quote, 'English polymath'):

'Before you criticise anyone, you should first walk a mile in his shoes, because when you do, you will not only be one mile away, but you'll be wearing his shoes!'

Ah the source of all anti-wisdom... meh!

Baroque... oh, the irony

I've been listening to a lot of Bach and Handel recently... particularly solo harpsichord and ensemble stuff.

A tad retarded of me, but I quite realised how ironic that I named one of my characters 'Jonathan Matherson' and made him a harpsichord composer. And who did he marry? 'Liese Meitne'!! (a physicist, no less)

True, that bit was deliberate (should give her a nicer story than the original), as was having her great-uncle's family name as 'deRarque'. It was 'deRarc' at first, but it didn't feel eccentric enough. Anyway, many apologies to Paul, but I'm sure it would have been one of the few things that he would have found amusing. Though, doubtless he'd have things to say about my education (particularly my almost complete and utter disdain for theoretical physics - I like making drugs, what can I say?). Ah well... Erwin Freundlich, anyone?

(Still, *wonders when the Copenhagen letters are going to be released*...) *sigh*

Further thought...

One thousand down...

She's in a fight, wondering how to end it without killing her opponent. On another note, I really ought to do some concept art... aaahh, if only I could do more than technical drawings...

The Temple comes to mind, haven't thought about that place for a while. The Sentinels... always had ideas in my head, but couldn't really picture them, can't get the torso right. I'll content myself with some weapon designs for now. Now, where's that camera...

Empty

Quiet day... half the department was out, and you can tell how bored I am when the highlight is getting home to watch ZeroPunctuation. Maybe that's a bit unfair on Mr Croshaw, but I suppose it's true, areas of the job are quite mind-numbing... hope the Boss doesn't read this...

And London Transport sucks! Oh wait, that's hardly new, is it?

Must read up on Cecilia Payne...

Sunday - Short Story

I'm quite determined to get at least a short story in for Sunday... would be helpful if I started it...

By the way, slight spoiler alert, but since you won't know what the hell's going on, I don't really think it matters that much.

Idea came into my head yesterday: member of a State elite corps in her final test before joining seemed a good idea. Cliched in a way, but unobtrusive. Give it a few flashbacks and some conceptual leeway to keep me thinking about her story. Chose the gender at random since both have been done to death as the macho sort (well, kinda). No names... quite adamant about that for some reason. Should I include Primus? (You'll hear a lot about him and wonder who/what is he? I still haven't decided his character if I'm honest.) No, a bit much in something that's only going to be about three-four thousand words long.

Oh yeah, that's another thing, I suck at writing short stories... can't ever finish them. Just start and can't seem to conclude them. Actually, not true for this one, I've got the ending sorted out. Again a cliche: she passes out. Still going through the decorations in my head though, not sure how much it needs. Long journey, much pain and tiredness and the obligatory superhuman performance.

Better get started, hadn't I...

Bubi

Bored, idea-less & stuck

It's always the way... finally get an opportunity to say something and sod all comes to mind.

I don't know... someone's nicking stationery at work (Sky accuses me, before VB joins in the griping). The noteworthy event of the day... *sigh*

My head is filled with the machinations of a universe, which to write down first? *shrug*

Primus? Jireyna? Ghassan? Galatea? Fingersmith even?! (determined to think of something)

Quote of the Day

In what is probably the first of a number of either lame, weird or surreal posts:

Q: Who brings a gun to a knife fight?
A: The winner...

Happy New Year!!

Yes, just a tad late, but to all my Oriental friends (& family): uh, Kung Hei Fat Choi (I think).

About thirty-six hours late, but then, I only started this thing two hours ago... (and I suck with computers) (pshaw!)

One small step for man, one giant fall into the abyss for me!

Ah... right, now...

Expectations: not much, anticipation: more or less the same, advice on this undertaking: none whatsoever.

Excellent start!

Anyway, welcome to my blog (a bit lame, but it has to be done), and more importantly, welcome to the strange expansive volume of gelatinous viscosity that is the contents of my imagination. I'll probably have to shift this intro to the blog-welcome. Show what I know about blogging, and apologies, I've never read a blog... ever. Meh!

As it says above, I enjoy writing. I've been writing sketches and chapters for probably the last twenty or so years, since back when I was an immature brat complete with bohemian lifestyle and bad hair (probably kept the second part). No-one has ever read the scribbles that I've taken, and so, on the advice of my dear cousin Roxy, I will now unleash my madness on an unsuspecting world (cue cackles of laughter). I'm fully aware of how rubbish a writer I am: my style sways around like a cameraman with an inner ear infection; and the language switches manically between Malcolm Tucker and Sir Humphrey Appleby. And yes, in normal life, I drop a s***load of references all day long.

Regardless, I'll put stuff on here for you to read (suffer?) (you can tell I'm English, can't you?) and criticise, along with the occasional quibble.

Enjoy and thanks for reading.

Bubi
