Welcome!

Oh, I'm so going to have to change that...

Continue for the scribblings of a slightly (many will beg to differ) mad Englishman with an overactive imagination and nothing to lose (well, not much).

If you get stuck in the quicksand that is the insides of my head, good! Stay there and bask in the euphoria of my insanity.

(Yeesh, sorry, that sounds a bit flat, doesn't it?) Anyway, I hope some of you will be able to immerse yourself in the rubbish that I post.

Bye for now,

Oh... the pain...

Chapter 18... half done... not sure how long it's going to end up, but... eh... still, 215 came and went quite quickly, and 214 is going just as quickly, think only a couple chapters for each year. Need more elections to keep it/me 'sane'... -_-

Ah well...

On a lighter note...

Bring on the Tiger I's! -_- Won't appear for a few episodes yet, but never mind.

Progress... or not...

Well, I just realised the layout for Italia has been thrown clean out the window. Ah well, still going OK... finally gotten past Cannae, and may the fiction begin... sort of...

Starting sketches for Iberia now as well, done one on the prologue to Carthago Nova but needs a massive overhaul... *sigh*

Anyway, on a silly note:

WWII tanks = great, moe anime girls = just as great, combine them and...

Yes, Girls und Panzer...

Compilation required...

Running out of possible scenes I can write for the first part (Italia)...

Only two left that I can think of... and this will make absolutely no sense out of context... but I'll note them down before I forget them...

1. News from Iberia... talking about Dertosa... during Publius' quaestorship...

No sense right? Right... ok... moving on.

2. Introducing the lictors!

-_-

More time to be wasted at work... which is increasingly annoying me but ah well...

On a different note: Escapist Expo's Hour of Love!

Official... & Yet Another Idea...

Let's consider this properly shall we, just so as I have it written somewhere for the sake of posterity...

As you know, a few sketches (OK, I don't know why I use that word, considering I read it with respect to Beethoven on his walks around the southern German woodlands when trying to find inspiration) around here have been about the experiences of Gaius Laelius. I'm now trying to tie the whole lot together and make it look plausible as well as historically accurate with respect to events, characters (woohoo, thank you Titus Livius Patavinus for giving me a complete main cast!!), most of the interactions and especially Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus Major (to use his full name in retrospect). However, some of the theatricality in this first part is starting to make me weep, though how the hell am I supposed to fill out eight years of story when little happened in reality?! *sigh*

Anyway, the framing device I haven't touched upon properly and I'm still trying to figure out exactly what to put in all those conversations, and considering the narrator is Laelius, it should be kind of obvious what the framing device is: Polybius interviews Laelius, 160BC. Thus, question: to involve the younger members of the Scipionic Circle in these sections or not to involve them? *dramatic shrug*

On another note... sci-fi time... haven't done anything space-y in ages. So, here we go: cross between of the Napoleonic Wars & the Second Punic War (shut it, it's fiction!)... in space (well d'uh). So, how obvious a reference is the central character's name: Stafford?!

No?

*shrug* to lighter things then:

Momiji! I like her... she's silly! Plus, Kana Hanazawa voicing a complete psycho is hilah-rious! Oh yeah, and Miyuki Sawashiro as Cerevisiae in Moyashimon Returns is amusing...

Richard...

Good grief, that man's beautiful!

*ahem*

Uh... so, I'm not gay (well, not entirely...), and yes, I'm currently watching Castle. 'Tis very silly, and no doubt I will shortly be quoting it randomly, at work and otherwise. Ryan & Esposito have an amusing dynamic and all the characters work (for once in a show like this), though Alexis seems a tad too sagacious for her own good (not that it particularly bothers me, but still: capricious mother with bottomless wallet + playboy wisecracking father = her?! ... never mind).

And continuing the random... strange and (for one reason or another) endearing picture of the day:
(thanks to [gg] for the sub)... ¬_¬

Anyway, er... yes, still scribbling. Gotten past Trebbia and trying to involve the spymaster somehow, or rather, introduce him. Seems a tad confected at the moment, but I'll come up with something... plausible at least. And where did I read the name 'Bellius'?

Gathering Dust

Pretty much everything is...

Quote of the day:

"Gentlemen of France, would you care to fire first?!" - Lord Charles Hay (General, Guards Division - Battle of Fontenoy)

... how quaintly British! *stifles silly giggle*

Anyway, still about, just busy... with work, writing (which I'm now taking seriously... I have a plan and everything.. *urgh*), anime and sporadic gaming. I bloody well geeked out past couple days... Polybius' the Histories... uh-huh... Livy's Ab Urbe Condita Libri... uh... huh...

Still, Imperator is... sort of... starting to take shape. All major battles conceptualised and now need some sort of expansion. Think I'll put the opening chapter up at some point, though it needs some heavy editing (wrote the second quarter well before everything else, while I was gallivanting off writing up stab and clobber scenes, so it looks as though it's repeating itself... and how am I supposed to make Lucius less of a wuss?!)

On a lighter note... Moyashimon Returns!

Heehee!!

Bubi will be less silly next time... probably...

Started at last...

Quote of the day - "This isn't Hyde Park Corner, the war's over there!" - whatever Kenneth More's character was in the Longest Day.

Not sure why I waited so long to get started on it, but I finally got the technical glitch sorted out and at last...(!) I'm playing Medieval 2: Total War... and going around kicking people's arses with Teutonic/Gothic Knights... woohoo for the Heilige Romisches Reich! *ahem*

After playing so much Rome and Napoleon, it's taking a wee bit of getting used to. Still, me after about a dozen turns (having taken Hamburg, Florence, Magdeburg and Stettin and marching on Bern): I can replenish mercenaries in any settlement?! '= WIN'!! *ahem*

Though why are the Danish characters speaking with a Russian accent?! Ah well, anyway... *eyes the Milanese territories*

This... project...

Yeah, so... I'm a tad too interested in the Second Punic War right now, I think...

Ah well... expect a few more short sketches from Imperator, and my silly take on 'Hannibal vs Scipio'. Still, seriously, I wonder why no-one bothered with Polybius interviewing Laelius as a framing device?

*shrugs*

Kirtha

Well... here's a sketch, but a bit of a short one. Was planning to put a hell of a lot more into it but as with all things with me involved, so easily distracted, and a post Zama spiel turned to be a loooooooooooong piece...

Anyway, here's Gaius getting a little peeved...

Of anime, writing & working...

Quote of the day - "It'd be brilliant. It would have floats and balloons and everything. Be like gay pride... with tanks!" Sandi Toksvig

Dunno why, just felt like it. Popped into my head this morning for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Anyway... haven't been here in... bugger, nine months-ish...

Am I going to make this regular? Probably not. Am I going to put a sketch on here? From the Imperator saga... thing-y, probably... tomorrow... if I bloody well remember. Just thought of the Battle of Kirtha. Rather unimaginative, but the narrative is amusing (well, to me it is at least).

*sigh*

No money... anyone got a hundred grand kicking about? No? My travailles in logistics continue... but to lighten my moods, at least Hyouka and Jormungand entertain me thoroughly.

How can one not love Koko?!

Oh 'teh lulz'... promptly before selling a couple million quid's worth of weaponry.

Anyway, Bubi is off to choose... something... now... for... something else...

Good afternoon...
